Hello everyone, we are very proud to announce the winners of the MIS poetry contests!<\/p>\n
The two winners for the senior school are Jacqueline Lanzrein in first place, and Sophia Gerst in second!<\/p>\n
The three winners for the middle school are Mia\u00a0Bohlman in first place, Inez Kaur\u00a0in second, and Rania Wallenstein and Kaia Lemmers in third!<\/p>\n
Below are all the wonderful poems by these talented students:<\/p>\n

November Fools \u2013 Jacqueline\u00a0Lanzrein, first place SRS<\/strong><\/p>\n must be a cruel joke. but the colourless flowers, they cling to my skin and hollow my mind, snaking through my thoughts, creasing them like wrapping paper, that same smoke, shielding my eyes as the rain pitter patters, darkening the ground to a murky pit where your song was drowned.<\/p>\n you said a surprise would come. <\/p>\n Forgotten surprises \u2013 Sophia Gerstl, second place SRS<\/strong><\/p>\n inspired by rupi kaur and surprises <\/em><\/p>\n i remember the way it used to be then we grew up<\/p>\n now we wake up and look at our phone we watch the weather in an app we know in advanced what lies ahead they are casualties they are tedious everyday things<\/p>\n what surprises us now? <\/p>\n There were originally three winners for senior school with Sophia Gerstl in third place, but the original second place winner has been disqualified due to academic dishonesty, moving Sophia up to second place!<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Surprises \u2013 Mia Bohlman, first place MS<\/strong><\/p>\n I loved Surprises It was sudden and surprising just like one should, It came sudden full of surprise. So I ask while sitting at your grave why you left so sudden, trying to be unfazed.<\/p>\n And I try to lie, I hate Surprises. Surprises.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n A surprise \u2013 Inez Kaur, second place MS<\/strong><\/p>\n surprise: a beautiful emotion,<\/p>\n so unexpected and unforeseen,<\/p>\n a salty sea but of great beauty,<\/p>\n can\u2019t be measured using mass\/volume.<\/p>\n surprises, they are everywhere like particles of air,<\/p>\n in things as simple as a game of chess,<\/p>\n next move a mate, or maybe just a check?<\/p>\n every moment\u2019s something different for me,<\/p>\n a new experience: pleasure or tragedy?<\/p>\n we are actors in the play of life,<\/p>\n this play a sea of possibility,<\/p>\n every action, every speech,<\/p>\n causing a difference for you and me,<\/p>\n this variability continues the equation of life.<\/p>\n surprises are important, surprises are key,<\/p>\n they are the wheels making us free-wheel,<\/p>\n their excitement is what drives us down,<\/p>\n the rocky road of life.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Surprises – Rania Wallenstein and Kaia Lemmers, third place MS<\/strong><\/p>\n An astonishing thing or event Like an unexpected descent<\/p>\n Ding! Dong! The doorbell rings. A parcel the postman brings.<\/p>\n A big box It jiggles and wriggles. It squiggles and giggles.<\/p>\n I opened the door, I went to do my chores, The sound drove me crazy, The box made the air hazy,<\/p>\n I wondered what was in the box. A fox? Finally, I opened the parcel. What I saw made me cheerful It was a small bear. Two minutes later, He was alive. To terrorize the rest of the world Through the air he whirled Who is he? \nmaybe april came early
\nmaybe I will wake up tomorrow and you will be there. maybe<\/em>.<\/p>\n
\nthe dirt I shovel
\nand hopelessly try to dust off my skin, the icy glow of the candles,
\nthe church organ haunting,
\nlike those living room evenings ringing in my ears
\nare as real as your fragile shell.<\/p>\n
\netching your cigarette breath into my lungs.<\/p>\n
\ni didn\u2019t think it would leave me this alone.<\/p>\n
\neveryday awaited a new surprise
\nwaking up seeing the weather was a surprise
\novernight fallen snow was a magical wonder
\nthe first warm day after a frosty winter was an enchantment the first blossoms of spring brought colorful delight
\nthe rainbows that appeared in the sky were a joyful serendipity<\/p>\n
\nsee the flowers, rainbows on social media the weather is no surprise<\/p>\n
\nmarveling at the beautiful unexpected gets harder
\nare we surprised to see the flowers bloom like we did?
\nare we surprised by the first snow, the first cold, the first warmth? we are not surprised by the small things any longer<\/p>\n
\nwhen did it get so hard to be surprised?
\nwhen did we start to neglect the small wonders in life? when did the small things become ordinary?<\/p>\n
\nThe tension and wait
\nI never thought it could cause a heartbreak.<\/p>\n
\nBut it didn\u2019t make me happy, it left me sad and shook.<\/p>\n
\nDelivered by my Mother, tears in her eyes.<\/p>\n
\nThat you wanted to go, but you had still much to learn, And much to show.<\/p>\n
\nNot knowing what will come.
\nI wish I loved them, like when I was young.<\/p>\n
\nWith the logo of a Fox<\/p>\n
\nPlaced the box on the floor, And closed the front door.<\/p>\n
\nWhile the box snored and snored<\/p>\n
\nA block?
\nA clock?<\/p>\n
\nHe had chocolate coloured hair.<\/p>\n
\nThe bear looked like he had used an inflater. The bear was huge,
\nHad the character of a Scrooge.<\/p>\n
\nAnd skydived.
\nfrom the top of my House.<\/p>\n
\nWhen he landed, he unfurled.<\/p>\n
\nWho sent him to me? I love him.
\nAnd on a Whim
\nI adopted him.<\/p>\n
\nThey give you immunity to shock.<\/p>\n
