Student’s Favorite Fall Music, The Soundtrack of Autumn
By Charlotte H. Grade 10
As the crisp air rolls in, leaves begin to fall. Hats, scarves, and sweaters get pulled out of storage. The smell of pumpkin spice fills up rooms and the warm feeling of eating homemade soup. Students in our MIS community are turning towards music to match the cozy, nostalgic feeling of this season. From folk ballads to alternative rock, the taste of fall music varies just like the color of the leaves. I have spoken to some MIS students to create the perfect fall soundtrack for you.
Artists like Taylor Swift and Coldplay are popular fall staples among students. Swift’s Folklore and Evermore albums are often said to be fall essential.
“It’s like these albums were made for cold, rainy days,” says Josie B.
Josie B. always finds a new love for these when the days get shorter, and the nights get longer.
This season of transition also invites a sense of melancholy, which can be comforting in its own way.
“I think a lot of students are feeling the weight of academic pressures or just life in general,” Libby B. adds.
She finds herself listening to jazz music on the car-rides to school or when working on homework and school projects.
For many students, fall music is more than just about individual artists or genres, it’s about curating the perfect playlist that captures the essence of the season. Platforms like Spotify and Apple Music have made playlist creation a form of personal expression, and many students take pride in crafting their own autumn-themed soundtracks. Madilyn D. is one of the many students who dedicates time to making her playlist. Her playlist made this year for the autumn months spans a little over 9 hours long! Though she still loves listening to a complete album, especially the 2007 Radiohead Album: In Rainbows.
I took the time to create you the perfect fall playlist with impute from our MIS students:
