From drones to soap. Go karts to NFTs.
On November 9th 2022, the M.I.S 10th grades presented their personal projects. We interviewed 20 people about their opinion on the best projects. The vote ended clearly showing a drone and a Go-Kart drawing most attention from the students attending the exhibition.
Maximillian F. who is passionate about coming with a solution that can help people by making an affordable drone drew many people’s attention. When asked about Maximillian’s motives behind constructing this drone, he responded in his own words: “Over the past few years there has been many natural disasters, that have been affecting small towns, and people have been missing.” He wanted to address that “we need to use drones with thermal image cameras”. Max wanted to come up with a solution that can solve “the problem is the countries with low income, like in Africa and south America, they might now be able to afford a drone that’s like 50000 dollars”. He concluded that he wanted to “build something for them that in functional and affordable”.

Max took inspiration from his previous drone, he was intrigued by how it functioned. Once he had collected all the required parts, he build the drone for 2-3 weeks. The biggest issue he encountered while constructing the drone was the calibration of the motors. He had troubles fitting everything into the dome, at the top of the drone. When his drone worked he was very relieved and proud of his accomplishments. “I was relieved because if I would have made a mistake i would have to had to dissembled everything”.
Another outstanding project that drew many student’s attention was Pavel’s custom fully functional go kart. He took six months every day to create and gather components in regards to his Go Kart. Pavel had an original budget of 500 Euros but used it on gathering his parts for his Go Kart from eBay. He, too, describes the process creating his personal project with two adjectives, responding it as “challenging and innovative”.
These are only two of the very many astounding personal projects that the grade 10 of MIS have worked on and developed over the past few months. Visitors to the personal project exhibition seem to feel the same way, as one of them, Leo L. said, “I feel like people put a lot of time and effort into these projects, I see a lot of hobbies and passions on display.”
The personal project expedition allows students to express their interests, hobbies and passions to peers, teachers and students alike.
